Overview

YMCA of Greenville is looking for individuals who want to live thier passion and bring on meaningful change to the community as our next Day Camp Counselor I.

 

The Day Camp Counselor II is responsible for providing physical, mental, and spiritual growth and development opportunities for each child; and developing and implementing daily plans in accordance with age appropriate programming through weekly themes and activities.  This position will act in a lead role to provide assistance with staff scheduling and questions regarding daily operations. 

 

Must be able to work 30-40 hours per week during Summer Day camp (9-10 weeks).

The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Act in a lead role to provide assistance with staff scheduling and questions regarding daily operations. 
  • Supervise and manage groups of school age children during homework; lead them in physical activity games, arts and crafts, nutrition lessons, etc.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for program times utilizing risk management guidelines, developmental characteristics, variety, creativity, and through weekly themes and activities.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities, and use only in an appropriate manner.
  • Report all program changes to Site Leader or Youth Program Director.
  • Be prepared for program responsibilities as assigned including lesson plans, devotions, group activities, Family Events and water activities.
  • Assist in Parents Night Out and Special Events as required.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships at all times with children, parents and co-workers.
  • Create an environment that promotes belonging, achievement, and relationships.
  • Adhere to all program rules as outlined in the Staff Manual, Personnel Policy, and Code of Conduct and Risk Management Manual and any other program specific guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining program standards at all times in regards to Quality Check Standards and Licensing Regulations.
  • Encouraged to participate in the YMCA’s annual support scholarship campaign.
  • Assists in all area of the Y operation as requested by management.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records at all times to including:

           Attendance rosters
           Medication Logs
           First Aid Logs
           Discipline Reports
           Incident Reports
           Field Trip Rosters
           Field Trip Checklist
           Closing Checklist
           School Pick up Rosters
           Vehicle Logs

 

  • Wears appropriate staff uniform.
  • Exemplifies YMCA character values.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have a High School diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 seasons of experience or years working with youth.
  • Must be willing to drive a 14 passenger mini-bus.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Requires the ability to be a good role model and to adapt to changing needs and circumstances. 

Must attend:

  • Pre-Camp Training.
  • CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention certifications within 30 days of hiring date.
  • All staff trainings and meetings.
