YMCA of Greenville is looking for individuals who want to live thier passion and bring on meaningful change to the community as our next Day Camp Counselor I.

 

The Day Camp Site Leader is responsible for providing physical, mental, and spiritual growth and development opportunities for each child; and provide leadership to staff regarding program components and areas of focus. Must ensure quality programming in accordance with age appropriate programming and employee supervision that creates an environment in which staff members excel.

*Must be able to work 30-40 hours per week during Summer Day Camp (9-10weeks).*

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the safety of children at all times.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for program times utilizing risk management guidelines, developmental characteristics, variety, creativity, and academic enriched activities.
  • Assist Youth Program Director with creating staff and program schedules.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities use only in an appropriate manner.
  • Assist in the planning and running of Parents Night Out, and Family Events in conjunction with Youth Program Director, as required.
  • Ensure staff members execute program responsibilities as assigned including lesson plans, devotions, group activities, Family Events and water activities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships at all times with children, parents and co-workers and actively engage parents and families on a daily basis.
  • Assist Youth Program Director with effectively collecting tuition payments and process them accordingly.
  • Coach staff and develop their skills in regard to leadership, discipline, effective communication and conflict resolution, and assist Youth Program Director in regards to staff discipline situations.
  • Maintain program standards at all times in regards to Quality Check Standards and Licensing Regulations.
  • Encouraged to participate in the YMCA’s annual support scholarship campaign.
  • Adhere to all program rules as outlined in the Staff Manual, Personnel Policy, and Code of Conduct and Risk Management Manual.
  • Exemplifies YMCA character values.
  • Maintains positive relations at all times with members, participants, and co-workers.
  • Assists in all area of the Y operation as requested by management.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records at all times to including:
    • Attendance rosters
    • Medication Logs
    • First Aid Logs
    • Discipline Reports
    • Incident Reports
    • Field Trip Rosters
    • Field Trip Checklist
    • Closing Checklist
    • School Pick up Rosters
    • Vehicle Logs
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 seasons of experience or years working with youth.
  • Must have previous leadership experience.
  • The ability to be a good role model and to adapt to changing needs and circumstances. 

Requires:

  • 30 hours of pre-camp planning work.
  • Attendance at New Hire Orientation prior to start date.
  • CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention certifications within 30 days of hiring date.
  • Attendance at all staff trainings and meetings.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 12 credits/units in Child Development/Elementary Education or 120 hours of approved Childcare related training (Documentation required).
