Camp Greenville is an overnight camp established in 1912 that hosts boys and girls from throughout the region and the world for summer camps, retreats and specialty camps. You will get to experience what the great outdoors of Western North Carolina and South Carolina have to offer.

 

The YMCA Camp Greenville is looking for candidates to join our team of Creative Commuting Experiential Educators. Camp Greenville's Drive On Program Staff will be trained to lead program areas, organize activities, as well as lead and facilitate adventure-based activities, including high ropes, rock climbing, bouldering, hiking, and group dynamics to children, youth, and adults.

 

Drive On Staff positions are April through November, with schedules being on the weekends. May require overnight stays at Camp Greenville. Room and Board is provided for any overnight stays.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, youth, and adults.
  • Ability to develop and supervise creative and safe programming.
  • Work non-traditional hours, typically weekends.
  • Assist with evening activities and special events.
  • Maintain safe working environment for staff and campers.
  • Maintain clean working conditions.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of supplies, notifying supervisor of low levels before supplies run out.
  • Observe camper and staff behavior.
  • Identify and respond to hazards.
  • Work with different age and skill levels.
  • Ability to deal with all staff and campers equally and fairly.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • 18 years or older and a desire and ability to work with children and adults in a Christian camp setting.
  • Current CPR, first aid, AED.
  • General positive attitude and willingness to work unconventional hours.
  • Active team member of program staff and camp community
  • Willingness to model appropriate behavior around all groups at camp in terms of language, appearance, and respect of others.
  • Physical ability for: crouching, lifting, and carrying 50 pounds, sitting, stooping, climbing, and leading strenuous hikes.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Time management for personal and professional responsibilities.
  • Initiative to “jump-in” where needed and improve programs as seen fit.
  • Maintain living areas in a clean and presentable fashion.
