Under the direction of the Sports Director and Sports Assistant and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA of Greenville, the Sports Counselor II will assist in providing leadership and direction in the development and success of the specific Youth Sports programs in the community.

• Assist in providing leadership and excellence in specific program service and delivery, primarily during the summer season in Sports Camps, through proper training, evaluation, and promotion of programs.
• Assist in monitoring and maintaining accurate records as it relates to the specific program area.
• Give guidance and direction to sports participants and volunteers.
• Maintain the equipment, inventory and program areas.
• Develops relationships for the advancement and promotion of the YMCA Sports Program.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
• Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
• Follow mandated reporting requirements
• Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
  

Note: Tennis instructors fall under this job description, but wage rate may be more than regular sports Lead instructor due to market value of their sport.

• Must be at least 20 years of age
• Minimum six months of leadership experience.
• Minimum six months experience in sports related fields.
• Experience working with all youth of all ages. 
• Basic knowledge of recreation, physical education or some related field or equivalent work experience.
• Basic knowledge of the following sports: baseball, basketball, football, track & field, and soccer, e.g., rules, field dimensions, lining fields, etc.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Possess skills in relationship building e.g., excellent communication skills.

Preferred:

• Have a full understanding of YMCA philosophy and live, work and perform work duties in a manner consistent with such.
• Referee experience.
• Coaching experience.
• Community involvement.
