Overview

The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Reporting directly to the RECESS Program Manager, the RECESS Program Lead will be responsible for the oversight of the staff and the program for group of adults with disabilities.

 

The mission of the RECESS program is to serve adults with disabilities by providing opportunities to socialize with peers, promoting healthy lifestyle habits through proper nutrition and exercise, fostering community involvement, and service. The RECESS Program Leader is responsible for the classroom instruction of a group of special needs adults.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with policies and best practices of the RECESS program to ensure consistency of the program across the Association.
  • Involved in the community, e.g., Greenville CAN, Special Olympics, and events for the population with diverse abilities, as needed.
  • Participate in the annual campaign.
  • Provide oversight for the development and implementation of the curriculum and lesson plans for program sessions utilizing risk management guidelines, developmental assets, and variety, creativity, and program areas of focus.
  • Oversight of classroom safety, ratios, and positive environment for students.
  • Able to drive a 14-passenger minibus, as programming allows.
  • Provide weekly/monthly reports to Recess programmatic staff.

Other expectations

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the field of Special Needs/Special Education.
  • Ability to manage classroom of up to 24 adults with diverse abilities.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver’s License with the ability to operate a 14-passenger minibus.
