Camp Greenville is an overnight camp established in 1912 that hosts boys and girls from throughout the region and the world for summer camps, retreats and specialty camps. You will get to experience what the great outdoors of Western North Carolina and South Carolina have to offer.

 

YMCA Camp Greenville is looking for cause-driven leaders to fulfill the role of the Camp Greenville Lifeguard. The Camp Greenville Lifeguard communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to ensure a safe and fun waterfront environment for our campers. This position supports the Waterfront Coordinator and Paddle Sports Coordinator in ensuring all waterfront-based activities are properly managed and protected by providing a quality program that values safety first. This person will continue the trend of making our waterfront one of the premier program spaces at YMCA Camp Greenville.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and enforces aquatics rules and guidelines to insure a safe waterfront environment.
  • Properly opens, performs daily tasks, and closes aquatics area each day according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Provides excellent service to campers.
  • Ability to work with participants of all backgrounds.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, fully stocked, and well-organized work area.
  • Handles and resolves aquatics concerns and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
  • Works without constant direct supervision and remains at assigned post for extended periods of time.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and contribute toward a quality work environment.
  • Supervises campers and staff at the waterfront during swim tests, free swim, canoeing, and kayaking.
  • Support cabin leader staff when not in program area and fill in for cabin leaders at times.
  • Serve as a role model, upholding our camp values, and working with integrity, creativity, and safety in mind at all times.
  • Responsible for the health and well-being of the campers mentally, emotionally, and physically, during their time at camp
  • Must approach responsibilities in a fun, creative, enthusiastic, and professional manner.

Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Current lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification (American Red Cross or YMCA) – required & must be willing to obtain prior to June 2025. Position is contingent on certification.
  • Must be 18 years old or older or graduated high school by June 2025.
  • Able to communicate and enforce policies and procedures to all campers and staff.
  • Able to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
  • Must have enthusiasm and possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with peers and campers.

Preferred:

  • Experience guarding in a waterfront setting.
  • Experience working in a team setting.

Lifeguard Certification is required prior to being hired as a lifeguard.
