The Aquatics Site Lead supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and consistent with the mission of the YMCA of Greenville, the Aquatics Site Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing aquatic programs and activities at the assigned site. This role includes planning and facilitating individual or group aquatics sessions, providing guidance to participants and volunteers, and supporting overall site operations to ensure a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for participants and staff during assigned shifts, providing assistance, questions, and ensuring smooth site operations.
  • Act as the on-site leader during emergency situations, following established safety and response protocols
  • Support the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director with tracking participation, incident reports, certifications, and other key documentation for aquatics programs, as it relates to all Pool program areas.
  • Assist with inspection, inventory and maintenance of equipment and facilities to ensure safe and effective program environment.
  • Help orient new aquatics staff to site expectations and reinforce training provided by leadership.
  • Offer informal coaching and peer support to aquatics staff, modeling high standards in instruction, safety, and professionalism.
  • Observe program activities and provide constructive feedback to support program quality, escalating any concerns to the Aquatics Assistant Director as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with members, staff, and community partners to promote and grow the YMCA’s aquatics programs.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a manner that reflects YMCA values and safety standards.

Other Expectations

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
    • Maintenance Employees-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in Aquatics Programming, or life guarding and leading/supervisor sports related sites.
  • Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Knowledge of Aquatics recreation, physical education or some related swim or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience working with youth of all ages. 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Possess skills in relationship building e.g., excellent communication skills.
  • Have a full understanding of YMCA philosophy and live, work and perform work duties in a manner consistent with such.
