The Building Supervisor provides on-site support to staff during assigned hours when there is limited departmental leadership on site (typically evenings and weekends).  The Building Supervisor serves as the manager on duty and is a liaison to departmental/executive leadership in the event of serious injury, accident, mechanical malfunction, grounds issues, and staff/member issues.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as manager on duty and provides overall coordination and general oversight of facility operations during assigned hours.
  • Ensures the proper operation of all equipment and mechanical systems while on duty and/or notifies proper off-duty personnel with issues beyond ability or authority to repair.
  • Constantly monitoring entire building to make sure everything is operating safely and effectively.
  • Assist in keeping the facility clean and orderly: cleaning, sweeping, wiping down walls and counters, picking up trash, etc. throughout each shift.
  • Supervise all on-duty staff in all departments during shift.
  • Monitor all areas and ensure that scheduled activities are taking place and that staff have reported for duty.
  • Report maintenance issues and projects as necessary.
  • Assume leadership during any incidents, injuries or emergencies and fills out incident reports as needed; notifies appropriate off-duty personnel as is necessary.
  • Use influence as the Building Supervisor to address staff and member issues that could result in unsafe conditions, as needed. Document these issues with complete details for follow-up with management
  • Document any staff or member issues for follow-up with management.
  • Continually conduct facility walk-through and observe/report activity.
  • Engaging with members and providing great member service to ensure everyone feels safe and welcomed at all times.
  • Assist departments with any member complaints/issues or where an extra person is needed periodically (i.e. tours, bathroom breaks, towel bins emptied, etc.)
  • Ensure building is opened/closed (based on schedule) properly. Building Supervisor Opening and closing checklists are to be completed with the assistance of other scheduled opening and closing staff.
  • Any other non-managerial duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
    • Front Desk Personnel- ensure consumers are properly signed in and out, ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.
  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violation using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumer from abuse
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Current YMCA of Greenville Employee
  • Minimum two years of experience in customer service, preferably in the YMCA (either the Membership or Wellness Department).
  • Demonstrated leadership and high level of responsibility.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations and manage several tasks and projects at the same time.
