The Director of Business & Communications supports the work of YMCA Camp Greenville and the YMCA of Greenville, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position is responsible for managing Camp Greenville’s internal and external communications, creating and implementing communication/marketing strategies, communication sharing and serve as the key contact person and communication/marketing contact on behalf of YMCA Camp Greenville and Pretty Place Chapel. Serves as part of the program leadership team at camp to provide the highest level of service possible in all areas of program staffing, design, delivery, health and safety management and budget control.

Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

  • Develop camp social media strategy, including the ownership of building presence and content. This will include both the Camp Greenville and Pretty Place social media platforms.
  • Ensure alignment with YMCA of Greenville and Y-USA branding, communication/marketing plans, and overall strategy.
  • Develops and evaluates parent communication strategy, including monthly and weekly emails, camp newsletters, website, and Camp Greenville Live app advancement and development. Must bring previous website design and app development experience.
  • Serves as the lead person for all new camp families. This includes open and honest communication, developing a new family outreach communication strategy, and hosting new family Zoom each week during the summer season. Available for questions or emergency communications at all times during summer.
  • Serves as a senior advisor to the summer media team with possible direct oversight of media staff.
  • Serves as the camp's public-facing representative to provide support to guests, parents, and staff.

Registration & Guest Services

  • Performs camp registration setup, changes, cancellations, and other guest transactions efficiently and accurately. Generates confirmation emails for all summer programs, generates reports to ensure camp guests are checked in appropriately, and assists other camp Senior Leadership Team with department needs.
  • Leads strategy and implementation for program registration processes, management, maintenance, and customer service. Utilizes CampBrain, Circuitree, and Daxko to maintain accurate reporting on balances paid, balances due, cabin assignments, medical form returns, etc. on all summer camp guests. Consistent follow-up with registered camper families for payments and forms due.
  • Serves as the lead role of office management, providing quality customer service both on the phone and with in-person guests and campers. Responsibilities will include processing daily, weekly and monthly reports. Assisting the Program Leadership Team in office supply ordering.

Event & Board Support

  • Serves as the secretary of the Camp Greenville board of directors ensuring accurate minutes are taken. Assist camp executive director with the preparation for the board of directors meeting, including calendar management, meal ordering, and document preparation.
  • Serves as an event manager for all the camp’s public and private events. This includes booking venues and catering for road show events. Attendance at events is not required.

Camp Store & Business Operations

  • Leads business operations of the Camp Store, including ordering, staff oversight, inventory, trend watching, and budgetary goals.

Fundraising, Professional Development & Community Engagement

  • Works as a member of the staff team to assist with Annual Campaign fundraising contacts with a campaigner goal of $2,000 raised.
  • Handle confidential information privately and professionally.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, off-site committees to enhance overall camp programming.
  • Maintains relationships in relevant professional organizations (ACA, YMCA).
  • Represents the branch at various meetings and events related to the position, including all assigned branch and association committees.

Program Strategy & Leadership

  • Program oversight (specific to their program area): strategy, planning, logistics, implementation, and filling to capacity.
  • Oversees budget for the programmatic area.
  • When applicable hires, trains and supervises staff.
  • Serve as Camp Leadership Team to include annual planning, budget planning, capacity planning, innovation, and new program creation.

Other Expectations:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Follow employees and volunteers’ screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behavior.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field preferred with at least 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience in social media and communication strategies preferred.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software. Proven development of websites and mobile apps required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
    of the community.
  • Professional experience working with varied groups including children, adolescents, college students, adults, parents, and teachers.
  • Positions will be required to work extra hours, including a span of seven days a week in the summer months. Non-summer months will be normal office hours including mornings and/or afternoons.
