The Youth & Family Services Assistant Program Director supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Youth & Family Services Director at the Y, this position is responsible for leading the development and operations of the Afterschool Child Care (ASCC) and Teen Engagement programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all Afterschool Child Care programming and staffing in compliance with state and local regulations and YMCA standards.
  • Develop and implement high-quality childcare curricula and activities for students of various ages and developmental stages.
  • Develop and deliver high quality Teen Engagement programming that can create synergy with deliverables with the Day Camp and After School Childcare programs and Specialty Camps spaces
  • Assist the Y&FS Director in Day Camp planning and programming and Child Watch program quality deliverables.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a positive childcare staff team, working toward the same goals and with a vision of offering high quality, high value programs for members and participants.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to childcare and camps.
  • Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures followed within all childcare programs.
  • Directly supervise, recruit, train, and develop part-time Afterschool and childcare staff (Day Camp & Child Watch) in partnership with the Y&FS Director and Human Resources.
  • Conduct and report staff evaluations annually, as well as on-going, non-formal evaluations of staff to ensure highest quality of staff are in place and adding value to childcare programs.
  • Coordinate use of branch facilities for daily activities.
  • Purchases and maintains supplies for activities.
  • Develops and monitors ASCC & Teen program budgets to meet fiscal objectives and assist in Day Camp & Child Watch budget preparation.
  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities.

  • Participate in quarterly reviews with executive leadership examining and evaluating departmental progress, growth, staffing, results, and goals as well as personal application of YMCA of Greenville Leadership Attributes.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Represents the branch at various meetings related to the position, including all assigned branch and association committees, as hours allow.

  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities
  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violation using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumer from abuse
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.

Qualifications

*Compensation will be determined commensurate qualifications and experience.*

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, early childhood, recreation, human services or equivalent.
  • Two or more year’s related supervisory experience in school-aged childcare, teen programming, and/or day camping.
  • Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements, YMCA standards and ACA standards for day camps.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Skills in staff and volunteer supervision, values education, community program development, and fund raising.
  • Must be able to drive bus
  • Must be at least 20 years old to drive a bus
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Incumbents must complete mandatory training of New Staff Orientation, BBP/Child Abuse Prevention and CPR/1st Aid/AED trainings within 30 days of employment.
