Overview

The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

 

The Director of Grants & Impact Funding supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, this position is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive grants and impact funding strategy for the YMCA of Greenville. This role manages current funder relationships, cultivates new opportunities, and ensures timely application and reporting processes across foundation, corporate, and government support. As a strategic partner to branches, membership, and the national YMCA network, this position plays a vital role in sustaining and growing philanthropic investment in mission-aligned programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities

Funding Strategy & Development

  • Develop and implement an impact funding strategy aligned with YMCA goals and community needs.
  • Dedicate approximately 25% of time to identifying at least 10 new funding opportunities per year.
  • Cultivate relationships with potential funders, including corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with branch leaders and membership to ensure alignment of funding priorities with organizational programs.

Grant Writing & Management

  • Write, submit, and manage grant proposals and renewal applications with 100% on-time submission rate.
  • Monitor deliverables, financials, and performance outcomes for all grants to ensure 100% timely reporting and accountability.
  • Oversee stewardship of current funders and manage regular communications, recognition, and engagement plans.

Organizational Stewardship & Engagement

  • Serve as branch liaison for program-related grants and funding strategies.
  • Plan and execute a minimum of 4 engagement activities per year per organization, such as site visits, impact briefings, or mission experiences.
  • Maintain active relationships with internal and external teams, such as Advancing our Cause teams or Y-USA, and other relevant external funder networks.

Reporting & Collaboration

  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date grants calendar including deadlines and deliverables.
  • Partner with internal teams to collect data, stories, and reporting materials needed for compelling applications and funder updates.
  • Provide regular updates to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and team on funding status, new leads, and strategic alignment.

Other expectations

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

*Compensation will be determined commensurate qualifications and experience.*

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in grant writing, institutional giving, or nonprofit fundraising
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Proven track record securing and managing foundation, corporate, and/or government grants.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, logic models, and outcome reporting.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience working in donor databases or CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce).
  • Demonstrated ability to build internal and external partnerships.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA.

  • Effective Communication: Excellent writing and storytelling abilities to communicate impact, craft compelling proposals, and report program outcomes.
  • Project & Time Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and reporting requirements with attention to detail.
  • Data and Impact Reporting: Proficient in collecting and presenting program data and outcomes to meet funder requirements and demonstrate community impact.
  • Technology Proficiency: Experience with donor databases and CRM tools (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and grant tracking systems.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Ability to work across departments and with external partners to align funding with program needs and strategic goals.
  • Mission Alignment: Passion for the YMCA’s mission and a commitment to advancing community-focused, equity-driven initiatives through sustainable funding.
