Overview

The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

 

Under the guidance of the Youth & Family Services Directors at the Caine Halter Family YMCA, and with a programmatic collaborative partnership to the Teen Engagement Director, the Teen Engagement Coordinator will assist in leading, developing, and implementing programs and activities designed to engage, inspire, and cultivate personal growth and leadership in middle and high school students. This role aligns with The YMCA of Greenville’s strategic plan, addresses community needs, and complements the work of the Teen Services Department.

Responsibilities

Teen Leadership Program Management:

  • Assist with developing, planning, and overseeing a range of Teen Leadership and engagement programs aimed at engaging teens in social, educational, recreational activities and life-skill building.
  • Conduct orientation, initial and ongoing training for teens on various topics
  • Build strong relationships with teens, encouraging their participation and fostering a sense of community.
  • Assist with creating leadership development opportunities and mentorship programs to empower teens and promote personal growth.
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and organizations to expand programming opportunities and resources.
  • Assist with planning, leading, and executing events, workshops, and trips focused on teen interests, including arts, sports, career exploration, and volunteering.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and coaching to teens engaged on opportunities and programming, act as a mentor and positive role model, addressing the individual needs and challenges of teenagers.
  • Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and safety in all programs.
  • Maintain communication with parents and guardians to ensure engagement and support for teen programs.
  • Assist with recruiting, training and managing volunteers or staff involved in teen programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate program success, collecting feedback to continuously improve offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and any relevant legal or safety regulations.
  • Assist with developing outreach strategies to raise awareness of teen programs and drive participation.
  • Mission Fulfillment: Contribute to and supervise the execution of the YMCA mission through teen initiatives, programs, and memberships, while overseeing staff involved in teen programming.

Collaborative Relationships:

  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and organizations to expand Teen Leadership/Engagement programming opportunities and resources.
  • Assist with developing and maintain partnerships with local middle and high schools, and other community organizations that serve and support teens and families.

Leadership in Youth Programs:

  • Support and collaborate with Youth and Family Directors in out-of-school time programs targeted towards teens ages 12-18yrs, summer teen camps (including L.I.T. and CIT camps), and serve as a liaison for branch Youth & Government delegations.

Diversity & Inclusion:

  • Act as a mentor and positive role model, addressing the individual needs and challenges of teenagers. Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and safety in all programs.
  • Model inclusive behaviors and embrace all dimensions of diversity. Board Collaboration: Work with Branch Executive Directors to develop teen representation on branch boards.

Volunteer Management:

  • Recruit, train, manage and monitor volunteers involved in teen programming.

Other Expectations:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications

  • High School diploma with at least 3 years relevant experience working with young people.
  • Experience working with teenagers in educational, recreational, or youth development settings.
  • Experience working with adolescent and teen-age groups
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and an understanding of the challenges faced by teens today.
  • Passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship-building through programs.
  • Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and independent time management skills.
  • Excellent group facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and strong team-building capabilities.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Availability for travel.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.
