Camp Greenville is an overnight camp established in 1912 that hosts boys and girls from throughout the region and the world for summer camps, retreats and specialty camps. You will get to experience what the great outdoors of Western North Carolina and South Carolina have to offer.

 

The Food Services Manager supports the work of the Y, a leading charitable nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This role is responsible for all aspects of food service and kitchen operations at YMCA Camp Greenville. Responsibilities include menu execution, meal preparation, ordering and inventory control, food safety compliance, budget support, and the recruitment, training, and supervision of kitchen staff. The manager also serves as lead cook as needed based on camper volume. During non-summer months, this role supports additional operational duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Food Production & Meal Service

  • Prepare meals according to menus, dietary needs, and ServSafe guidelines.
  • Serve as lead cook for shifts as needed.
  • Use creativity in menu planning and food presentation.
  • Calculate daily food usage to ensure proper quantities for each meal.
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies, including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, nut, and lactose-related needs.
  • Maintain organized workspaces and ensure cleanliness in the kitchen, dish room, storage areas, and front-of-house serving spaces.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality food service in accordance with ACA, SCDA, and Camp Greenville standards.
  • Maintain an A rating on all SCDA inspections.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate seasonal and part-time kitchen staff.
  • Foster a positive, mission-aligned, and team-centered kitchen culture.
  • Provide coaching, accountability, and leadership to ensure consistent performance and service quality.
  • Ensure staff comply with health regulations, sanitation standards, and safety procedures.

Inventory, Ordering & Budget Management

  • Maintain daily food and supply inventory levels.
  • Submit timely orders for food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist in efficient use of resources and expense management within the Kitchen (Dept. 60) budget.
  • Maintain professional relationships with vendors and internal departments.

Dining Hall Operations & Customer Experience

  • Ensure the dining hall is clean, safe, welcoming, and prepared for all groups.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain above-average ratings on exit evaluations.
  • Communicate and model Camp Greenville’s culture to campers, guests, and staff.

Communication & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Communicate daily with the Director of Operations.
  • Follow all communication protocols, including timely return of messages (within 24 hours) and meeting form/report deadlines.
  • Maintain appropriate communication via phone, digital platforms, email, and radio.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and cross-department committees to support camp operations.
  • Handle confidential information in a private and professional manner.
  • Assist with camp-wide operations and collaborate across departments for smooth program delivery.

Operational Support & Mission Alignment

  • Support overall camp operations and contribute to a safe and mission-driven environment.
  • Work nontraditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain physical ability to perform emergency procedures.

Other expectations

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumer from abuse.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Assists with other duties for association and camp during non-summer months as assigned by Director of Operations

Housing Option

  • This position is eligible for on-site housing and is required at a minimum from May through September.

Qualifications

*Compensation will be determined commensurate qualifications and experience.*

  • 5 years of experience in the food service operation.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in food service operation.
  • Ability to work long hours, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Able to move up to 50 lbs.
  • Skill and experience in using kitchen equipment (Range, fryer, mixer, ovens, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding the rules and regulations in food preparation and storage.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with people on all levels.
  • The ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates, make independent decisions and exercise discretion is essential.
  • Requires current certifications or willingness to obtain, in American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED ServSafe Manager.
